| PEEK polymer is the brand name of a
high performance thermoplastic made by Victrex plc. The unique combination of properties
including ease of processing means PEEK polymer is used in a wide range of
applications, from aerospace and automotive to the medical and electrical/electronics
industries. Thanks to its proven ability to withstand hostile environments, PEEK polymer is becoming the material of choice for responding to greater product performance demands. As manufacturers progressively require higher levels of performance and lower cost from the materials they specify, PEEK polymer is ready to meet their needs. Important characteristics are:
Since PEEK polymer is semi-crystalline, it is insoluble in all common solvents and has excellent resistance to a very wide range of organic and inorganic liquids.
PEEK polymer and PEEK polymer compounds offer excellent tribological properties over a wide range of conditions.
It has a UL746B rating of 500°F (260°C) for RTI. Excellent mechanical properties are retained at temperatures up to 572°F (300°C).
PEEK polymer has a UL V-0 flammability rating down to 0.057 in. (1.45mm) without the use of additives.
The levels of smoke and toxic acid gas released during combustion are extremely low.
The excellent electrical properties of PEEK polymer remain stable over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.
PEEK polymer can be used for thousands of hours at temperatures in excess of 482°F (250°C) in steam or high pressure water environments without any significant degradation in properties.
The resistance of PEEK polymer to gamma radiation at high dose levels is exceptional.
The material is easily processed using a wide range of conventional thermoplastic processing equipment. Injection molded parts do not require post-treatment. |
